So, I've been wanting to blog about several things and finally have time!! Yay!! I canNOT believe this past school year has gone by so quickly! I feel like I just found out that I got into Baylor nursing school and moved to Dallas just the other day! Now a year of nursing school has passed and I am one year away from being an RN with a real job and a salary!! There were definitely times in there that I did NOT think I was going to pass a class or make it through the past two semesters, but with hard work, wonderful support from family, friends, and Will, and lots and lots of
prayer I am finished with my first year.
AHHHH, and it feels wonderful! After this past semester I know that geriatrics wouldn't be as bad as I thought, oncology is not really for me even though I really enjoyed my clinical rotation on the floor, and labor and delivery can be exciting and boring all at the same time. I was able to deliver 5 vaginal births, see one c-section, failed epidural and spinal block, and several emergency situations. With all that said, I sometimes think I never want a child, but I know I really do, but I NEVER want a c-section or an epidural. My friends with children think I am crazy about the epidural, but hey my mom had 4 children with no pain meds, I can do it, right?!? I guess we will cross that bridge when I get there...Anyways...I also worked in the nursery and the NICU. I fell in love with the NICU and I could definitely see myself working there some day! It was absolutely amazing seeing some of the things I did...for example a stable 1 pound baby! Oh and I inserted my first IV and foley catheters this semester!! So, things to look forward to peds rotation next semester and being a Camp nurse at Camp Longhorn this summer for class credit!! I have never been so ready for a summer break! I plan to relax, recharge, study for the NCLEX, and prepare for my last year of nursing school!!
